Lu Family Compound
View FullscreenLu Family Compound
The Lu Family Compound is located to the east of the Dongyang County seat. The genealogy tells that the Lu family first settled here in the 12th century. The development of the compound reflects the political, social, and economic status of the Lu family. During the Ming dynasty (1369-1644) it produced many officials, and the main body of the compound was built during this period. The family continued to hold a leading position during the Qing period (1633-1911) and even today some members play important roles in the local government. The focus of the compound is Seriousness and Consonance Hall, located on the central axis. All important family gatherings took place here. About half the compound was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution.
