Street Intersection

| Title: |
Street Intersection |
|---|---|
| Description: |
The first major intersection inside the city gate. It has many different kinds of shop on all sides. People of different occupations, engaging in different business, commingled on the streets, in this apparently open urban space.

Here and elsewhere in the painting, there seem to be no separation between commercial and residential areas in the city, unlike earlier cities in imperial China such as the capital city of Chang'an in the Tang dynasty (618-907). |
